Terms of Service

Last updated: October 12, 2026

These terms cover use of substationcapacity.com and the tools hosted on it, including the map, batch screening tool, and API. By using them, you agree to these terms. Email hello@substationcapacity.com with questions.

What this is

Substation Capacity aggregates and normalizes publicly available electric utility data, published by utilities through their own ArcGIS feeds, into a searchable tool that keeps dated historical snapshots. Depending on the source, the metric is load-serving headroom, EV hosting capacity, electrification headroom, or unconfirmed.

Demand scenarios subtract an assumed additional peak load from published indicators; the result is an arithmetic comparison, not a forecast, a connection assessment or a commitment of capacity, and published values may be months old.

No warranty on the underlying data

The capacity data comes from public utility sources we do not control. Some sources are more reliable than others. We label this with data quality tiers (A/B/C) inside the tool and flag known staleness or gaps where we know about them.

Values are published by each utility. Each result shows its snapshot date, and where the utility reports one, its last source update date. The snapshot date is not a measure of source freshness.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for decisions made based on data from this tool.

Utility data remains subject to each utility's own terms. We do not claim any right to utility data beyond what those terms allow.

Demo access

A limited public demo key is provided for evaluation. It is rate-limited and does not include Watch/Alerts or other account features. We may change or revoke demo access at any time without notice.

Batch screening and CSV uploads

If you upload a CSV of addresses, you are responsible for ensuring you have the right to submit that data, including confidential client lists or other data you are not authorized to process through a third-party tool. To run a batch you must agree to these terms using the checkbox on the batch tool. We send the addresses to Geocodio, a third-party geocoding service, in a single batch request. Geocodio processes addresses under its own terms, which we link here. We keep geocoded results in a cache for up to 60 days after you run a batch, then delete them. You may ask us to delete them earlier at hello@substationcapacity.com. Batch results are preliminary screening indicators based on utility-published data, not an engineering study or a utility confirmation of capacity, and are provided as is. Do not resell, redistribute or publish batch outputs or the underlying data without our written permission. See the Privacy Policy for details.
